A slightly raised effect is created by positioning rows over the ridge of buttonhole stitch on previous row.
Step 1. First work a single row of basic buttonhole stitch as shown in the figure. Secure thread on back of fabric.
Step 2. On next row go down above ridge, working between stitches of previous row. For shading effect, vary thread color.
