Encroaching Satin Stitch

Vertical bars of satin stitch are worked evenly, with each row encroaching very slightly into the one above to provide subtle shading effects.

Step 1. Working from left to right, come up at A, go down at B (at edge of motif), up at C and down at D. Continue to complete row 1.

Step 2. To work similar band of stitches, insert needle between and just above base of two corresponding stitches on previous row. Keep stitches even.
